1091 Tucker Avenue – Affordable Housing Development Near the Beltline

Rendering by Smith Dalia

BLP is working on an exciting affordable housing development near the Atlanta Beltline in Atlanta’s Historic Oakland Cemetery District. 1091 Tucker Avenue will provide a permanently affordable fee structure in which the land ownership costs burden is lifted from tenants, a unique alternative to the typical equitable housing approach. Despite affordability, this project contains design elements more common to luxury scale developments. Unique site amenities include a variety of outdoor gathering spaces such as a grilling patio, a courtyard garden with seating/reading nooks and a fire ring. A community garden with raised beds will allow residents to grow vegetables and herbs adjacent to the community’s open lawn space. Additionally, a rain garden feature which will assist with stormwater infiltration and water quality will be installed in conjunction with the Southface Insitute’s Atlanta CREW Green Infrastructure program. Architecturally this project features a modern, modular building approach, but which features architectural elements that connect to the historic character of the surrounding neighborhood. We are grateful to be working as part of the team with Atlanta Land Trust, Home Place Solutions, Smith Dalia Architects and Oak Construction Group.

The current issue of USGBC+ Magazine contains an article on Atlanta’s key players in the equitable housing push. The article includes a highlight on the Tucker Avenue project and Atlanta Land Trust’s great work in this area.  Follow link below:
