New Senior Center for Chamblee

The North DeKalb Senior / Community Center is one of several new facilities being constructed concurrently over the next year to replace aging senior centers  in different parts of DeKalb County.  Lyman Davidson Dooley Architects led a talented design team  to bring the facility in Chamblee to fruition, or at least to the start of construction.  Ground breaking commenced at a ceremony led by Dekalb CEO Burrell Ellis on November 14, 2012.  While the day was a bit chilly, the end result will be a state-of-the-art senior/community center that warms the hearts of hundreds of active seniors.  Breedlove Land Planning did their part to convert this previously developed site into a user-friendly space with walkable access to nearby Senior Connections and a future City of Chamblee walking path system.

Chamblee High School Construction Progressing

Construction at the new Chamblee High School continues! The first phase of construction is in full swing with framing of the new Academic Building along Chamblee-Dunwoody Road nearing completion.  Turner Construction is working diligently to meet the targeted opening date of January 2014.  As reported on the School’s construction progress website, all existing school activities are being performed smoothly in conjunction with the construction.

Demolition of Old Apartments Mark the Beginning of Chamblee Charter High School Transformation

Chamblee Charter High School construction is under way and off to a great start!  Here is what DeKalb County School District has to say about their premier construction project:  “Targeted to open early 2014, the current $69 million construction project will dramatically change the face and size of the school. The site will be expanded by six acres with the acquisition of the apartments to the south of the school. Stadium Drive will disappear to make room for a greatly expanded L-shaped building. The new L-shaped school will have classrooms in a four-story building facing Chamblee Dunwoody Road. An elevated bridge will connect the classroom building to a two-story building along Pierce Drive that will contain a new gymnasium, auditorium and natatorium. On the north side of the buildings, Steve Westby Field will be moved some and be rebuilt. For the first time, the girls will have their own softball field, and a practice field will be built for football, soccer or other activities. The aging tennis and basketball courts will be rebuilt as well.”  Breedlove Land Planning, Inc. is proud to have provided all site design services in conjunction with the architectural design by Perkins & Will.  For updates on the construction progress, check out the following link:  https://sites.google.com/site/cchsconstruction/
