Arabia Mountain High School Achieves LEED Silver

Breedlove Land Planning is proud to have provided site design services for the Arabia Mountain High School project.  This Dekalb County Schools facility is located adjacent to the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve and received LEED Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council (www.usgbc.org).  You can read more about the project at World Architecture News.

MODA’s ‘Atlanta: Beyond Bricks and Sticks’ Continues

In celebration of Atlanta’s diverse mix of certified green building projects, MODA presents ATLANTA: Beyond Bricks & Sticks, an exhibition that is traveling to some of the city’s high-profile venues. Spotlighting many of the metro area’s outstanding design examples, MODA’s Atlanta: Beyond Bricks & Sticks tells the stories of the “What is Your Carbon Footprint?” quiz, video interviews, an intimate look at student life at Dekalb County’s LEED Silver Certified Arabia Mountain High School (site design by Breedlove Land Planning) and many other features that explain and celebrate green living.  Please visit the MODA website for venue information

Summer in Bloom at Arabia Mountain High School

Summer wildflowers are in bloom and solar panels have recently been installed at Arabia Mountain High School in Dekalb County, Georgia.  These landscape areas (pictured) are located in front of the LEED for Schools pending building and are designed to mimic a Georgia piedmont wet meadow.  This feature, designed by Breedlove Land Planning, and the solar panel installation are just a few of the elements intended to further the school’s mission of engaging students in learning through human and environmental interactions.  Click through to learn more about wet meadows and the challenges facing solar power use in Georgia.

Located within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area and, more specifically, within the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, this site was a perfect fit for this environmental showcase along the Arabia Mountain Greenway Trail.  Breedlove Land Planning was honored to provide the site design services for this unique high school, which has a curriculum geared specifically to environmental studies.
