The Decatur Fire Station No.2 was just awarded a 2010 City of Decatur Historic Preservation Award. This LEED silver project in the Oakhurst neighborhood of the City of Decatur conserves water, employs recycled materials and energy-efficient systems, and uses natural light throughout. One of the most exciting site features of the Clarence Brown Civic Center in Bartow County, Georgia is a new outdoor stage and amphitheater. This LEED Silver pending project, lead by the architecture firm of Lyman Davidson Dooley, Inc., is currently under construction. Other site features include a lush event courtyard adjacent to the conference center and a new pond which provides for wildlife habitat, stormwater management and non-potable water for irrigation. Breedlove Land Planning provided all site design services for this state of the art facility.
Located within the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area and, more specifically, within the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, this site was a perfect fit for this environmental showcase along the Arabia Mountain Greenway Trail. Breedlove Land Planning was honored to provide the site design services for this unique high school, which has a curriculum geared specifically to environmental studies.
Coahulla Creek High School is currently under construction in Whitfield County, Georgia. Breedlove Land Planning provided complete site design services for this new 95 acre campus nestled in the scenic ridge and valley geologic providence of the state, including this soil filled gabion retaining wall designed to protect existing trees and a riparian corridor. A permanent seed mix was specifically tailored to provide the plant façade for this living wall. The school is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2011.
Porter Branch Library is currently under construction in Newton County, Georgia. The project is attempting LEED Gold certification and includes the recycling of roof water via an underground storage cistern and an innovative series of water quality treatment facilities with native plants. The facility is scheduled to open in winter 2011 but you can watch it be built above.
Recently, the University of Georgia Special Collections Library rainwater cistern, designed by Breedlove Land Planning, was installed on site. This cistern has a holding capacity of over 100,000 gallons and will treat stormwater pollutants, provide non-potable irrigation water for the 3+ acre site and will even provide water for a future campus project not yet under construction. The building, designed by Collins Cooper Carusi Architects, is attempting LEED Gold certification and is one of approximately two dozen LEED projects Breedlove has provided site design services for.
