Infiltration based stormwater management can be integrated into the most urban of conditions. At the newly renovated Central Atlanta Library in downtown Atlanta, Breedlove Love Planning designed a rain garden along the eastern edge of a new entry plaza. Stormwater runoff sheet flows across the paving and into this vegetated bioretention cell where engineered soil, trees and shrubs work to break down and clean pollutants. This rain garden also reduces impacts on the downstream City storm infrastructure by reducing volume outfall. We are proud to have supported this 21st century library program with a 21st century approach to runoff quality treatment and management.
We’re so excited to see Milton’s new Public Safety Complex nearing completion. The police building should be opening soon with Fire Station 44 soon to follow.
BLP is excited to be working on the new GMA Headquarters with the project’s architect, Stevens & Wilkinson. The project includes a new four-story building, a parking deck, and renovations to the existing building. The headquarters also includes a landscaped courtyard between the two buildings, and a fourth-floor terrace facing the State Capitol that can accommodate up to 200 people for special events.

The Decatur City Commission recently approved Breedlove Land Planning’s “Option B” design for a shared-use path on South Columbia Drive. The improvements are needed to accommodate pedestrian traffic once the new Talley Street Upper Elementary School opens in August. The concept was designed o be used by pedestrians and cyclists, connecting the new Talley Street School, Legacy Park and the East Decatur Greenway.
The selected design includes a 10-foot shared use path with a three to five-foot landscaped buffer. The path will be about a quarter-mile long initially, though long-term plans call for eventually linking Talley with the multi-use path further south on Katie Kerr Drive. BLP also provided site design services for Talley Street Upper Elementary School.
Last month, Breedlove Land Planning helped celebrate the ‘topping out’ of the Grant Park Gateway project. Winter Johnson Group hosted the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation along with design and construction team members to commemorate this major construction milestone. As part of the design team, Breedlove Land Planning provides civil engineering services for this project that will feature a new parking garage hidden below an extensive vegetated green roof, a new restaurant and improved pedestrian connections through Grant Park. We are proud to be part of such an exciting project that will provide the Grant Park community with yet another wonderful amenity and are eager to see its completion.
Construction is nearing completion on the new Cobb County P.A.R.K.S. Administration Building and Services & Operations Building. The project provides the Department with a central headquarters complex for all of their administration and services needs. The campus project includes a new 18,400 SF Administration Building with offices for the director and staff, a public meeting room with after-hours access and an enhanced entrance lobby area. The project also includes the repurposing of an existing storage facility to provide an equipment storage area, vehicle maintenance shop, and parts storage area. Additionally, an existing Inventory Control Building was demolished and rebuilt in place as a new 4,000 SF facility.
Breedlove Land Planning provided site design services for the complex including site layout planning, parking and access configurations, grading and drainage improvements, utility infrastructure, erosion control and landscape design. The Administration Building also includes an outdoor patio space for employees.
Work is finishing up on the new Alpharetta Arts Center, and the facility should be open to the public within the next few weeks. The $3.35 million project converted an old Fulton County Library into a municipal arts center that will serve as the hub of Alpharetta’s garden and arts district. The 8,500 SF facility has studios for painting and crafts, a blackbox theater, a media studio, and gallery space. The single-story building is dominated by a large “flex space” that can be used as an auditorium, gallery or banquet hall.
Breedlove Land Planning provided site design services for the project which included outdoor classroom seat walls, a new loading dock/service area, monumental entrance walls and pedestrian connectivity to the broader city network. Most notable are the sculpture gardens which included extensive landscaping and pathways. The project also included upgrades to the existing stormwater management facility and parking areas.
The GBI Morgue Expansion and Medical Examiners Annex Building was recently recognized by Associated General Contractors of Georgia with a Build Georgia award. The project was designed by Stevens & Wilkinson, with Breedlove Land Planning providing site design services, and built by Piedmont Construction Group.
Criteria for the awards include exceptional project safety, overcoming project challenges, innovation in construction techniques and materials, excellence in project management and scheduling, as well as dedication to client service. The project includes office space, improvements to the autopsy room and decomposition rooms, a conference room, and a break room.
