Breedlove Land Planning is the lead designer for Phase 1 of the University of Georgia’s project to update the infrastructure at the UGA Transit Facility. The project is planned in phases to accommodate the university’s gradual transition to an electric bus fleet. They are receiving the Proterra buses in phases as their manufacturing and commissioning is complete. The new fleet will significantly reduce emissions and create opportunities for experiential learning and research.
UGA’s transit system is the state’s second largest bus system in ridership behind MARTA, serving 11 million passengers per year. Phase 1 of the project accommodates charging 22 buses, and BLP hopes to continue work on Phase 2, which is anticipated to include 34 more charging spaces covered by a solar canopy. Womack & Associates was a consultant under BLP for the project’s electrical design.
