Mike Breedlove was honored to attend an Appreciation Cook Out for the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and all of those who assisted in capturing the people who vandalized and stole from the Walk of Heroes Veterans War Memorial. In December 2017, thieves stole numerous bronze statues and plaques, causing an estimated $200,000 in damage to the memorial. Four individuals were arrested and are awaiting trial thanks to efforts by the sheriff’s department and a $5,000 reward that was offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest. Most of the bronze items have been recovered, but it is uncertain if they can be refurbished or if they will need to be replaced.
Breedlove Land Planning was chosen as the project’s lead designer in 1996 and has provided design services including conceptual design, master planning, and construction documentation. The memorial combines architectural and landscape elements to form a pedestrian park on the northwest bank of Black Shoals Lake. The project consists of approximately 25,000 square feet of disabled person’s accessible walkways and plazas, over 600 linear feet of seat walls and retaining walls, parking, sculptures, water features, lighting and site furnishings.
