DeKalb County Schools opened a new addition to one of its oldest facilities, Druid Hills High School, on Monday, August 9th. The addition was designed by Perkins + Will with all site design services provided by Breedlove Land Planning, Inc. Space constraints were an issue between the existing building and the Haygood Drive right-of-way, so bioretention cells were incorporated into the stormwater management plan to provide water quality treatment for runoff from new impervious surfaces. The cells have been seeded with a wildflower mix which enhances the ecological functions of the soil in addition to increasing the school’s aesthetic appeal from the street.
