New Walk Increases Accessibility While Preserving Trees

How can one provide a safe and accessible sidewalk along a steep slope next to an interstate access road while preserving existing trees?  At Ridgeview Elementary School in Fulton County, children were having a difficult time walking to school along a service road adjacent to State Route 400.  Breedlove Land Planning worked to provide the following solution:  1) Steel beam piles were driven into the ground; 2) metal framing and decking was installed to support a concrete pour;  3) the concrete walk was poured on the decking and posts installed to receive a handrail.  The result is approximately 1,200 feet of elevated walkway that eliminates severe grading, preserves vegetation and provides a pedestrian dedicated walkway to the school.  Take a look at the slide show below to watch the construction, which should be complete this month.
