Recycled Concrete at Tucker High School

Construction continues at Tucker High School in Dekalb County.  This project, designed by Milton Pate Architects and being built by Turner Construction, will be completed in time for the 2011-2012 school year.  Many efforts were made by Breedlove Land Planning to incorporate tenets of sustainable design, including the use of recycled materials.  For instance, instead of hauling in new stone for the site, salvaged concrete from the original school building was crushed on site, separated from other materials, washed and used for a variety of applications.  This photo shows recycled concrete used as the bedding for an underground stormwater management system.  You can follow the project on the Tucker High School Construction Forum.
